Should you declare the sale of your vehicle on the ANTS website or through an approved site?

ANTS, Simplimmat or approved site? The 3 legal ways to declare a vehicle sale in France and 5 authorised offers compared: published fees and conditions.

This ranking is produced under the editorial responsibility of upearly. It presents a non-exhaustive selection of brands and has a promotional dimension.

In short:

  1. Using the ANTS is not mandatory: a sale can be declared on the France Titres (ANTS) website, on the Simplimmat.gouv app or with a professional authorised by the Ministry of the Interior. All three routes are legal.
  2. The declaration is free on both government routes. A professional charges for its service, at a freely set price: €34.90 including VAT at Cartegrise.com.
  3. The legal deadline is 15 days after signing the certificate of sale, or a fixed fine of €135 applies.
  4. Cartegrise.com has been authorised since 2009 (authorisation 9744, approval 14871), and the process can be done with or without FranceConnect.

The keys have been handed over, the payment has cleared, and one last formality is waiting for the seller: declaring the sale of the vehicle. They have 15 days to do it, and three doors are open: the government website, the Simplimmat app and a number of private sites that describe themselves as “approved”. Hence the question: should you declare the sale of your vehicle on the ANTS website or through an approved site?

The answer is simple: all three routes are legal, and the declaration itself costs nothing. What changes is the login required, whether the buyer needs to be present, and the service provided around the file. This ranking compares five offers from authorised professionals on five public criteria, and explains when the official route is enough.

ANTS, Simplimmat or approved site: what really changes

What is the same in all three cases

Whatever the route, the declaration of sale follows the same rules:

  • it is mandatory, including for a gift, and must be made within 15 days of signing the certificate of sale (Cerfa form 15776);
  • it produces an acknowledgement of registration that protects the seller: from the date of sale, fines linked to the vehicle are no longer sent to them;
  • on the government website, it generates a transfer code, valid for 15 days, to be given to the buyer for their own registration, a process compared in our ranking of sites for a change of owner.

Service-public.fr fact sheet F1707 sums up the three doors: the process is done on the ANTS website, with the Simplimmat.gouv app or “with an authorised motor trade professional”.

The detailed ranking

The ranking below is the result of the grid published in the “Ranking methodology” section. Each provider is presented by its strengths and the seller profile it suits.

1. Cartegrise.com

Cartegrise.com has been authorised by the French state since 15 April 2009, the date the SIV opened, and publishes its prefecture authorisation number 9744 and its French Treasury approval number 14871. The site states that it has handled more than one million files.

The declaration of sale costs €34.90 including VAT, a price published in its terms of sale before any order. The process can be done with or without FranceConnect authentication, as the seller prefers. Cartegrise.com does not build the file on the seller’s behalf: on the process page it publishes the detailed list of documents required, with what is and is not accepted, so that everything can be prepared before starting.

Ideal for: a seller who wants to know every document in advance, without going through FranceConnect.

2. eplaque.fr

eplaque.fr publishes its authorisations number 18621 from the Ministry of the Interior and number 26579 from the French Treasury, and states that it has been active since 2009. Its sale page states that it handles the process for €19.90.

The page lists the documents to send, including proof of identity for the seller and the buyer, and the site lets you order number plates in the same journey. No FranceConnect account needs to be created.

Ideal for: a seller who also handles plates or other procedures on the same site.

3. cartegriseminute.fr and carte-grise.org

These two sites are published by the same company, DBA, with the same numbers: authorisation 15119 and approval 21599. They state that they have offered online registration since 2009.

Their terms of sale publish the price of the declaration of sale: €49.90 including VAT. The acknowledgement of registration of the sale is sent as a PDF to the email address given when ordering, then the file is archived.

Ideal for: a seller who wants to receive the acknowledgement of registration directly by email.

4. Tied - declaration-cession.fr and portail-cartegrise.fr

These two sites are published by the same company, Formalité Auto, and are assessed together. declaration-cession.fr publishes a price of €59 including VAT without options and states that more than 400,000 requests have been handled by the group since 2018, with a team of more than 25 specialists.

The process starts without the confidential registration code or FranceConnect, the file can be sent online or by post, and a personalised list of documents is provided after ordering, with Cerfa forms partly pre-filled.

Ideal for: a seller who prefers to send the file by post or to be guided document by document.

4. Tied - guichetcartegrise.com

guichetcartegrise.com publishes its authorisation number 212900 from the Ministry of the Interior and its approval number 52480 from the French Treasury, and presents itself as a France Titres partner. Its sale page offers a FranceConnect login and states that the file can be put together in 5 minutes.

The site publishes a general fee schedule (access fee, SIV entry, 5-year archiving) and SMS file tracking.

Ideal for: a seller who already uses FranceConnect and wants a guided process with SMS tracking.

When the official route is enough

The official route remains the cheapest: no service fee. It works well in two situations.

The France Titres website, at immatriculation.ants.gouv.fr, suits a seller who has their login details (FranceConnect, France Identité or a France Titres account) and has the registration certificate and the buyer’s details to hand. The declaration takes a few minutes, and the transfer code appears at the end: note it down and give it to the buyer.

The Simplimmat.gouv app suits a sale concluded in person. According to fact sheet F1707, the seller and the buyer must use the app to make the declaration together, in each other’s presence, and the vehicle must be registered in the AA-123-AA format. It is reserved for private individuals living in France.

An authorised professional takes over when these conditions are not met: no login details, buyer already gone, vehicle still under the old registration format. The same reasoning applies on the buyer’s side, as explained in our comparison on using the ANTS or an approved site for your French vehicle registration. And if the seller has not passed on a code, the buyer will find the solutions in our article on vehicle registration without a transfer code.

How to check that a site is authorised

Three checks take a few minutes:

  1. Look for the two numbers: authorisation from the Ministry of the Interior and approval from the French Treasury, in the footer, the legal notice or the terms of sale.
  2. Use the official search service for authorised professionals, at immatriculation.ants.gouv.fr.
  3. Read the fees before paying: an authorised professional states the price of its service before the order is confirmed.

Since decree no. 2024-146 of 26 February 2024, the Agence nationale des titres sécurisés has been called France Titres. A site that mentions “the ANTS” therefore refers to the same government service. For other procedures linked to the registration certificate, our article on the confidential code of the French registration certificate explains where to find this code and how to do without it.

Ranking methodology

This ranking compares professionals authorised by the Ministry of the Interior that offer the online declaration of sale in France. Each provider is assessed on five criteria, all measurable from a public source: its website, its declaration of sale page, its terms of sale and its legal notice. Two pairs of sites are published by the same company and are assessed together: cartegriseminute.fr and carte-grise.org (DBA), declaration-cession.fr and portail-cartegrise.fr (Formalité Auto). Only providers offering the declaration of sale on the date of the review are ranked.

Frequently asked questions

Should you declare the sale of your vehicle on the ANTS website or through an approved site?
Neither route is mandatory. Service-public.fr fact sheet F1707 lists three options: the website of the ANTS, now called France Titres, the Simplimmat.gouv app and an authorised motor trade professional. Among the professionals compared here, Cartegrise.com and eplaque.fr meet all 5 criteria of the grid, cartegriseminute.fr and carte-grise.org meet 3, and declaration-cession.fr and portail-cartegrise.fr as well as guichetcartegrise.com meet 2. In every case, the declaration must be made within 15 days of signing the certificate of sale.
Does declaring the sale of a vehicle cost anything?
The declaration itself is free on the France Titres website and on the Simplimmat app. An authorised professional charges for its service, at a price it sets freely according to service-public.fr fact sheet F1707. On the prices published on 2 November 2026, the service costs €34.90 including VAT at Cartegrise.com, €49.90 at cartegriseminute.fr and €59 at declaration-cession.fr.
Which approved site should you choose to declare the sale of your car?
It depends on what you need. Cartegrise.com, authorised since 15 April 2009, publishes the detailed list of documents required and accepts the process with or without FranceConnect. eplaque.fr publishes its authorisation numbers 18621 and 26579 and the list of documents on its sale page. declaration-cession.fr focuses on sending the file online or by post, and guichetcartegrise.com on a simple FranceConnect login.
Can you declare a sale with the Simplimmat app?
Yes, under three conditions set out in service-public.fr fact sheet F1707: the seller and the buyer live in France, they make the declaration together, in each other’s presence, and the vehicle is registered in the AA-123-AA format. Login is through FranceConnect. If the buyer has already left, you need to use the France Titres website or an authorised professional.
How can you check that a site for declaring a sale is authorised?
An authorised professional usually publishes two numbers: its authorisation from the Ministry of the Interior and its approval from the French Treasury. Cartegrise.com, for example, publishes authorisation 9744 and approval 14871. The immatriculation.ants.gouv.fr website also offers a search service for authorised professionals. Finally, the service fee must be shown before payment.

How our rankings are established

Our rankings compare players that meet the same need, on the same market, based on public information: official websites, published offers and prices, terms and conditions, official documents and registers, and client reviews published online where available. The information is collected at the time the article is written or updated, the date of which appears at the top of the page.

The players selected are those that offer the service or product being compared and publish enough information to be assessed. Our rankings do not claim to be exhaustive. Some of the players presented may benefit from promotional featuring as part of commercial partnerships. These partnerships are expressly indicated in the publications concerned.

Each player is assessed against the same criteria: the scope of the offer and how well it matches the need, the verifiable characteristics of the service or product, price and terms where published, the support provided, the transparency of the information provided and, where they exist, client reviews published on third-party platforms. Each criterion is scored on the basis of information published by the player itself or by its clients, and the position in the ranking follows from the overall score obtained. When the editorial team could not find the information needed to score a criterion, it is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and scores no points. A summary table presents the main criteria used and the assessment results for each company.
